Weekend Coffee Share: Autumn Edition

Autumn leaf on wood shows it's splendor

If we were having coffee, after a fun week of reading Halloween-themed blogs and posting a few of my own, I would tell you that it is nice to finally get into autumn mode.

If we were having coffee I would offer you a wonderful pumpkin-spice flavored coffee, I found at Trader Joe’s. I add just a couple of scoops to my regular Colombian roast and it is perfect. Fall-weekend-coffee-shareWould you like a dollop of Bailey’s Pumpkin Spice creamer to mellow it out? Autumn heaven in a cup!

It is daylight savings time here in the states. We get to “fall behind!” Woohoo! I got an extra hour of sleep last night! It will be nice to wake up early and have some daylight, although it will be dark by 5:00pm.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you we managed to have a small, adult Halloween party at our house last night. Just a few close friends over to eat, drink and be scary. It would be scary if I cooked, so thankfully, my husband does that. But I did make some Candy Corn cocktails that turned out de-lish! The idea of the party was to also toast our new master bedroom with champagne. My friends were impressed with the bedroom. We also managed to hand out candy to trick-or treaters–the few we get.

If we were having coffee I would remind you that yesterday was my last Leisure Link. I want to thank everyone who has participated in the link party over the last few months. Watch for a wrap up post this week!

Part of the reason I discontinued my link-up was because I am so much more busy working as a part-time lecturer than I expected. I have been teaching two classes this semester. Last fall, as I was retiring from my day job, I taught two evening classes. Looking back, I don’t know how I did it, but since I had taught them both before, usually one per semester, most of my curriculum was ready to go. This semester, with just two classes, one of them is brand new and has 75 students. With the online component, it really keeps me hopping! But I love it.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am a little more than half way through the school semester! Both my courses had their midterms this past week. The month of November is pretty much it for classes, except for a couple of dates in December, reserved for group project presentations and finals. As I like to keep myself scheduled and structured, I already have my 2016 schedule, for spring and even next fall! It really is nice to know what I have to look forward to.

How is your autumn coming along? I can see by many of your posts that you are enjoying the fall leaves and some of you are already reporting snow. To my friends in the southern hemisphere, I hope you are enjoying wonderful spring weather!

Enjoy your week!

  1. Sounds like you had a great Halloween dinner, Terri.

Autumn is my favourite season and time of the year and we’ve some spectacular colours here in the UK this year. I’ve been out with the camera taking lots of photos.

I hope you get to rest up a little this November. Sounds like you’ve had a very busy year. Enjoy the displays Autumn is putting on. I know she also brings the darker evenings but they are great for curling up and catching up on some great movies.

    Thanks for the coffee.

  2. We always have a neighborhood adult Halloween party at one house or the other. For some reason, there are very few kids in our neighborhood so we had no trick or treaters at all. I wonder if the ritual of going door-to-door asking for candy is slowly going away (for a variety of reasons). I’m not sure what we’ll do with the leftover candy, but I’m doing my best to avoid it, although I’m not always successful. Thanks for the coffee!

    • Hi Janis! Very few trick-or-treaters here too. I know there were several special events where kids could go to carnivals–our church always does one. After 9-11 the trick-or-treating really stopped abruptly. Adult parties are always nice 🙂

  3. I love everything about autumn with the exception of the pumpkin-flavored everything that pops up! I’m looking ahead to peppermint-flavored everything, which should be hitting the shelves soon now that Halloween has passed! Cheers on the completion of your household project!

    • Oh that sounds good too! Yes, it was layered. I mixed vanilla vodka with lemon sour mix , pina colada mix (supposed to use pineapple juice), shake and pour into martini glass, then add the dollop of grenadine. You can add whipped cream but it would have been too sweet. Everyone liked it…way better than candy corn 🙂

  4. Hi Terri sounds like you have had an fun week but also busy. I like the sound of your Candy Corn Cocktails. Sorry to hear about your Leisure Link but I can understand I’m finding it difficult keeping up with the #AnythingGoes and#WednesdaysWisdom. It is Spring where I live but I do so love the Autumn leaves so am pretending I am in the US. Thanks for linking up and sharing with us at #AnythingGoes.

  5. Terri, I really loved the photo of the Autumn leaf. It was stunning and such a reminder of those rich Autumn colours. It’s all but Summer here and mostly warm and humid with a few cool days here and there. These little bugs are attracted to my lamp and pc screen and have invaded my desk. While bugs go with the heat, I haven’t seen these ones before.
Anyway, I’d better get to bed. xx Rowena

  6. We are enjoying a healthy dose of rain here in Sydney at the moment. It is warmer in both New York and Chicago right now than it is in Sydney. Boo! At least the sun was shining when we sailed in there.

Good luck with the rest of the semester. Amazing that you have your schedule thought through for next spring and fall!

Beautiful party lights. Again, congratulations in the new addition.

  7. Sounds like you had a fun Halloween night we went out for Halloween too. It was fun we went to a restaurant called The Chop House which has a spooky feel as it has these meat cleavers on the wall! The food was delicious and we enjoyed the company of two friends who we hadn’t seen for a while.
